GEORGE (GIORGOS) VITHOULKAS BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
George (Giorgos) Vithoulkas is an internationally renowned personality of Homeopathy and is considered by many to be “the greatest living homeopath worldwide” (year 2022) and the man who essentially revived Homeopathy in the twentieth century.
George Vithoulkas began his turbulent and adventurous life with his birth in 1932 in Athens and unfortunately, he lost both his parents during the Second World War. In 1958 he first came into contact with Homeopathy in South Africa trying to find a solution to his then unresolved health problems and impressed by the results he decided to study this healing method so, in 1962 he graduated from Puddhepahat school. From 1963 to 1967 he lived in India where he deepened his knowledge and realized the limits of the teaching of his time. In 1966 he graduated from the Homeopathic Medical College in Bombay and was awarded by the Indian Institute of Homeopathy. His talent was highlighted to such an extent that the famous Indian philosopher Krishnamurti asked him to become his personal physician and accompany him on his tours in Europe. In 1967, returning to Greece, he trained a first group of Greek doctors by examining patients together and after great efforts and difficulties, such excellent results were achieved that Homeopathy began to spread rapidly so, more and more Greek patients trusted it. In 1970, he published, with success, his first book “Homeopathy the medicine of the future” (to date it has been reprinted at least twenty-one times and in more than thirteen languages). In 1974, he founded the Homeopathic Medicine Center in Athens, where many well-known Greek homeopathic doctors were trained and worked. From 1976 he started to organize international seminars and in the following years he developed into an internationally renowned Teacher of Homeopathy with tours and lectures in many European countries and USA. In 1978, he founded “The International Foundation for the Promotion of Homeopathy” in California, USA, and in 1980 his book “The Science of Homeopathy” was published in English. In 1986 he returned to Europe and in 1987, in collaboration with the Belgian University of Namur, he developed the “Vithoulkas Expert System (VES)” to introduce electronic data processing in homeopathic practice and research, pioneering in its time. George Vithoulkas is the founder and main representative of the internationally famous “Athenian School of Homeopathic Medicine” and many of the most famous homeopaths around the world have been his students such as Bill Gray, Frederik Schroyens (author of the Repertory Synthesis), Roger Morisson, Ananda Zaren, Alphons Geukens, Jan Scholten, Anton Rohrer and others. In 1995, he founded the “International Academy of Classical Homeopathy”, in Greece (Alonissos island), where more than 15,000 doctors from 62 countries have studied to date. In 1996 he was honored, in Stockholm, with the internationally significant “Right Livelihood Award” also called the “alternative Nobel Prize” for “his outstanding contribution to the revival of homeopathic knowledge and to the education of homeopaths at the highest level”. He has published a large number of very important books, translated into many languages, on the philosophy and teaching of the science of Homeopathy and in recent years he has created the new electronic expert system, at the cutting edge of technology, “Compass “. George Vithoulkas, in addition to his crucial role in the revival, improvement and dissemination of Classical Homeopathy worldwide, selflessly and lovingly, without any distinction between the ordinary and the famous, helped many suffering people to be cured of very serious health problems.
George Vithoulkas is, among others, Honorary Professor of the University of the Aegean, Honorary Professor of the Medical Academy of Kyiv and PHEE “Kyiv Medical University”, Honorary Professor of the “State Medical University of Chuvash Republic” (Russia), Honorary Professor at “All Russia Scientific Research Center for Restorative and Resort Medicine” (Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation), Honorary Professor at the “National Educational Center for Traditional and Complementary Medicine (Russia), Senior Associate Member at the “Royal Society of Medicine” (Great Britain) and was (2001-2004) Associate Professor at “The Basque Medical University” (Spain). He has received an “Honoris Causa” medical degree from the universities of Cluz and Timisoara in Romania and has been awarded a Gold Medal by the Ministry of Health of India with the title “Homeopath of the Millennium” as well as the Gold Medal of the Hungarian Republic.
Beyond and above all the before mentioned, George Vithoulkas was and is for me the charismatic Teacher that I had the honor and privilege, as his student, to meet and indulge with him, for a number of years, in the art of homeopathic treatment. Apart from his profound scientific knowledge which he imparts with great skill, it’s his moral integrity, his simplicity and his love for people a constant source of inspiration in a difficult world!
